The African Federation, Inc. in collaboration with African Diaspora for Change (ADC), African PAC, and others, invites you to a forum of African-serving organizations in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area on Immigration Reform and the US Census. 10,000 Books to Africa!
We are excited to announce that the Books to Africa Initiative that begin at our Inaugural Ball in January has been realized through the hard work of a number of organizations, businesses and individuals. The books are currently en route to Addis Ababa and are scheduled to arrive by mid December. They will be distributed to a variety of organizations and schools in Ethiopia. As stated by the Batonga Foundation (founded by Angelique Kidjo), "Access to books is one of the most important factors affecting literacy in Africa. Many children who attend school in Africa have never owned a book of their own and in many classrooms it is common for 10-20 students to share one textbook. While many people in the United States might take educational necessities such as books for granted, children in Africa cherish them!"
SPECIAL THANKS TO FIRST BOOK FOR THEIR GENEROUS DONATION OF THE 10,000 BOOKS.
Tracey Neale, founder of Veronica's Story (the other beneficiary of the books) stated: "We are thrilled that the new children's books are now at sea, thanks in part to our very generous shipper, Demeke Meri, CEO of ALLFREIGHT Worldwide Cargo. Without Demeke's generosity, the endless commitment of VSF President, Robert Palmer and local businessman Henok Tesfaye, this shipment would not be possible. They have our sincere gratitude."
On October 20, Tracey Neale hosted a dinner at Etete Restaurant in NW, DC and presented a large book donation and a second installment to My Little Angels school for the students sponsored by her foundation.
